Castaic Lake’s Moonlight Kayaking trips are a rare opportunity for visitors to enjoy an evening out paddling on the upper lake, normally closed to nighttime use.

Different destinations are chosen each time, and often see wildlife come down to the shorelines at dusk. The instructors are familiar with local wildlife and birds, lake history, paddling techniques and kayak water safety. All equipment is provided, including fitted life jacket, paddle and lights. Each kayak will accommodate 2 persons; students will be paired up as needed to fill kayaks (bring a friend and go together!).

Pre-Registration is required. Call the lake office at (661) 257-4050 for information.

Classes are often sold out, and are first-come-first-served. Students may register for more than one class. Anyone who wants to bring their own kayak must come 15-30 minutes early to have it inspected for invasive species, or it must be pre-banded. The kayak and its contents, paddles and lifejackets must be absolutely clean and dry to pass inspection.

The event will take place Mon, June 25, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Castaic Lake Recreation Area, Main Ramp, Castaic, 91384.

The cost is $25 per person per class and you must be be 18 years old to register (children 8 and older may register with a registered parent).
