There are several events happening around the Santa Clarita Valley for Veterans Day.

Saugus High School to Unveil Wall of Honor

DATE: Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 at 9 a.m.

WHERE: Saugus High School, located at 21900 Centurion Way, Saugus, CA

WHAT: The Wall of Honor pays tribute to the 225 Saugus High School students who have courageously defended the freedoms we enjoy every day and the three graduates who died during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A 25-minute Patriotic Concert by Saugus HS choirs and marching band, will precede the unveiling.

Veterans Day Ceremony

DATE: Friday, Nov. 11, starting at 11:00 a.m.

WHERE: Veterans Historical Plaza, 24275 Walnut St., Santa Clarita, CA

WAHT: On Friday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m., the city of Santa Clarita and the Veterans’ Historical Committee, the SCV Chapter 91 Blue Star Moms, Blue Star Moms of the Canyons Chapter 82, Prayer Angels for the Military, and the Knights of Columbus will honors Veterans and individuals serving in the military and their families at Veterans Day Ceremony.

In honor of our veterans and our currently-serving military and their families, you are invited to a ceremony featuring musical performers, speakers, and changing of the flags at the Veterans Historical Plaza.

Knott’s Berry Farm Military Free Day

Santa Clarita veterans and residents can board Santa Clarita Transit on Saturday, Nov. 12, for a patriotic ride to Knott’s Berry Farm. The one-day, round-trip service coincides with the theme park’s annual Military Tribute Days promotion, which offers free park admission to all retired or active U.S. military veterans, plus one guest.

Residents and local veterans can board the one-day Santa Clarita Transit service at the McBean Regional Transit Center at 8:30 a.m. or the Newhall Metrolink Station at 8:45 a.m. Buses will depart Knott’s Berry Farm for Santa Clarita at 5:30 p.m. Regular fare is $3.00 each way, or $1.50 each way for seniors 60 and above and persons with disabilities.

Upon arrival at Knott’s Berry Farm, U.S. veterans, retired and active military personnel will be required to present military ID or proof of U.S. military service to receive complimentary admission to the park. Veteran, retired and active military personnel must be present. Passengers under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Free Pet Adoptions

The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control is teaming up with the Animals for Armed Forces Foundation to provide free adoptions for veterans, reserves, active duty service members and immediate family members this Veterans Day weekend.

The special adoption event runs this weekend beginning tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, and ends on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016. Any veteran, reserve, active duty service member, and/or immediate family member with proper identification will be able to adopt a pet at any DACC animal care center for free (licensing fee costs and trust fees may apply). Disabled veterans will receive reduced rates on license fees which will also be available following the conclusion of this special weekend adoption event.
