[KHTS] – Saugus Cheer Squad officials will host a cheerleading clinic Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Saugus High School gym.
The clinic is open to all children grades kindergarten to eighth grade.
“Our cheer clinic is a wonderful event that the young girls of our community enjoy being a part of,” said Denise Anderson, Saugus Cheer’s secretary of publicity.
Attendees will learn basic cheer skills, jumps and chants, participate in team and spirit-building activities, receive a Saugus Cheer Clinic T-shirt and take a photo with Saugus cheerleaders.
They will also have the opportunity to perform in a special show for parents and friends.
Admission to the clinic costs $35 if applicants register before Oct. 13. Admission is $40 for late registration and does not include a T-shirt size reservation. Space is limited.
Out of the William S. Hart District, Saugus High School is the only school with a competition team as part of their cheerleading program and the team is funded solely through donations and fundraising, Anderson said. Both the varsity and junior varsity competition teams have won and placed in several local, state and national competitions since their inceptions.
At last year’s national competition in Anaheim, the junior varsity team placed fourth out of 11 finalists and the varsity team placed sixth out of 18 finalists. This year, the team hopes to raise enough money to go to the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida, Anderson said.
