[KHTS] – The Santa Clarita Valley Signal’s Top 51 “Most Influential” citizens in the Santa Clarita Valley were honored on Tuesday evening at the Tournament Players Club Valencia.

The group of business leaders, educators, philanthropists, politicians and Santa Clarita city staff, among others, were selected by the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.

86 names were submitted for consideration.

Mostly individuals were honored as Santa Clarita’s Top 51, but the list also included some “power couples” as well as a few trios of water politicians.

Those selected as Santa Clarita’s Top 51 were presented with a “Top 51” plaque, lapel pin and wine class.

The list included names such as Carl Goldman and Jeri-Seratti Goldman, KHTS AM-1220’s owners, Cary Quashen, founder of Action Family Counseling, Leon Worden, president and CEO of SCVTV, and Santa Clarita Mayor, Marsha McLean.

This was the 10th year for the Top 51 list and those who have been on the list for all 10 years were honored separately.

Those who have been on the list for 10 years included: Bob Kellar, Marlee Lauffer, Don and Cheri Fleming, Bruce Fortine, Gloria Mercado-Fortine, Dan Masnada, Marsha McLean, Gail Morgan, Dianne Van Hook, Roger Seaver and Laurene Weste.

The members of the Santa Clarita City Council, Councilwoman Laurene Weste, Councilman Dante Acosta, Councilman TimBen Boydston, Mayor Pro Tem Bob Kellar and Mayor Marsha McLean were all honored as well.

College of the Canyons Chancellor Dianne Van Hook was named Santa Clarita’s “most influential” citizen for 2015.top 51

“For those of you that have grown up in the Santa Clarita Valley, I think you need to be aware that not all communities are like this. This is really a special place,” said Van Hook. “This is a place where people think not only about their own personal gain, but they think about what they can do to make things better for the greater good. That is not normal. I’ve worked in eight communities and I’ve never ever experienced that.”

Van Hook said what she appreciates about Santa Clarita the most is the can-do spirit.

“This community believes that it can do what other communities dismiss as not possible,” said Van Hook. “Walt Disney said that the magic is not in the place, it’s in the people. If there’s any place that has magic in the state of California, it’s the Santa Clarita Valley and I thank you for making that magic happen for all of us.”

The 2015 list, from one to 51, of Santa Clarita’s Most Influential:

Dianne Van Hook, Scott Wilk, Ken Striplin, Laurene Weste, Michael Antonovich, Steve Knight, Marsha McLean, Bob Kellar, Holly Schroeder, TimBen Boydston, Roger Seaver, Marlee Lauffer, Greg McWilliams, Dan Masnada, Jason Crawford, Captain Roosevelt Johnson, Jim Backer, Tom Campbell, Bill Cooper, R.J.
