1941 - Funeral for "our" Remi Nadeau, whose Canyon Country deer park became North Oaks [story]

L.A. County Homicide Bureau detectives are investigating what they called a ‘suspicious’ death in the Crescent Valley Mobile Home Park at 23500 The Old Road in Newhall on Friday morning, according to officials.

A 56-year-old woman died there this morning, and the man who shared a mobile home with her was being questioned about her death, but was not taken into custody, said Lt. Joe Mendoza of the Homicide Bureau Friday afternoon.

“Now, we’re waiting for the Coroner to determine the cause of death, to see if it was something criminal or something natural,” Mendoza said.

The names of the woman and her companion are being withheld for the time being, he said.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a call from the mobile home park “at 9:59 this morning about a female in need of medical attention,” station Sgt. Chris Maurizi said. “We arrived on the scene at 10:15 a.m.”

Homicide detectives took the lead from there, Maurizi said. L.A. County Coroner’s officials were reportedly on the scene shortly after noon today.

At 3:08 p.m., Mendoza referred to the death as “suspicious,” but said detectives were not looking at it as a homicide at this time.

“At this point, it’s not a murder investigation, it’s a suspicious death,” said Mendoza, who said two of his detectives were en route to the mobile home park.

“Out of an abundance of caution we’re just going to interview the family member that was in the house and we’re going to process the crime scene,” Mendoza said. “However, we won’t know which way this will go until the Coroner gives us his cause of death once his protocol is completed.”

At 4:40 p.m., Mendoza said his detectives “interviewed the woman’s cohabitant boyfriend and processed the house for any evidence. Now we’re just waiting for the Coroner to see if they see something out of the ordinary on her body when they perform the autopsy.”

He said that could take “a week or so.” Meanwhile, the investigation will remain open.
