Jack Anderson, of The Master’s University track and field team, placed second in the men’s 3000m as TMU added several All-Americans on the final day of the NAIA Indoor National Championships on Saturday, March 7 in Gainsville, Fla.
Despite leading the chase pack for the majority if the race, Anderson was able to connect with the leader and nab the runner-up finish. His mark of 8:03 crushed his own school record of 8:17 and was just five seconds off the NAIA record.
“Jack ran a very gutsy race,” TMU Head Coach Daniel Rush said. “He led the chase pack for over a mile and came up just short of catching the leader. He ran an incredible race and destroyed our school record in the process.”
Anderson was also a member of the men’s DMR team of Hunter Roy, Elijah Lovett and Colin Loveland that placed fifth. Anderson split a 4:09 1600m just two and half hours after his 3000m race to take the Mustangs into All-American position.
Roy earned his All-American award with a 1:52 800m early in the day. Emmanuel De Leon came through with a 12th place finish in the 5000m.
For the women, Alyssa Lovett was just one spot off All-American status in the 3000m, placing ninth in 10:11. She also returned to run on the DMR squad of Suzie Johnson, Lovett, Presleigh Adam and Olivia Loveland which came in 10th place. Emma Nelson also ran the 5000m, placing 11th.
“The whole team showed true character this week,” Coach Rush said. “Rejoicing in victory or defeat alike, I believe Christ was show. We win together and we lose together and we win for the Lord and lose for the Lord too.”
TMU will be back in action at the Occidental Spring Break and Distance Classic on Saturday, March 14, in Los Angeles, Calif.
