spring_eventsCommunity members are invited to enjoy the spring season by participating in free interactive programming offered at all Santa Clarita Public Library branches. The events will feature the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, Earth Day and Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros.

* Cowboy and Cowgirl Day – From 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, the Valencia Library invites children and their families to wear their best cowboy and cowgirl gear to a Western-themed party featuring fun activities and crafts.

* Cowboy Crafting – At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 the Old Town Newhall Library will host a cowboy-inspired poetry craft workshop for adults.

* Cowboy Adventuring: Trick Roping, Whip Cracking and More – At 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17 at the Old Town Newhall Library, storyteller Christy Lewis will share the secrets of being a cowboy, demonstrate whip cracking and teach basic square dancing to participants ages five and up.

* Drought Resistant Landscaping – At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18 the Friends of the Community Gardens of Santa Clarita will host a discussion about drought resistant gardening at the Valencia Library.

* Earth Science Workshop – From 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at the Valencia Library, students grades fourth through sixth can learn about recycling and caring for the earth.

* Plant a Gift for the Earth – Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library, students grades kindergarten and up can learn about the health of the planet and take home a plant in a small pot.

* Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros – From 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library will host an international event emphasizing literacy for children of all cultural backgrounds. The festival will feature performer Nathalia Palis, the SCV Youth Symphony, traditional Native American Dancing, crafts, storytelling and face painting. All children who attend will receive a free book.  This event is sponsored by the city of Santa Clarita’s Cultural Landscape Initiative and the Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library.

The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library is located at 18601 Soledad Canyon Road. The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 34500 Main Street. The Valencia Library is located at 23743 W. Valencia Boulevard.
