Free Spine Education Program: Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s free Spine Education Program offers valuable information on how you can take better care of your spine, including lifestyle changes that may help with pain management and prevent future injuries. Classes meet the second Wednesday each month, 5 to 6 p.m. at Henry Mayo’s Outpatient Therapy Services Ambulatory Care Center, Suite 310, 25751 McBean Parkway, Valencia. Call (661)253-8959.

Stroke and Brain Injury Support Group: Open to patients and survivors, their family members and caregivers, the Stroke and Brain Injury Support Groups meets the second Wednesday of each month, 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital ARU Dining Room, 27527 McBean Pkwy, Valencia. Free Community CPR Class: Approved by the American Heart Association, the Family and Friends CPR Program at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital teaches participants how to perform CPR on adults and how to help an adult who is choking. Classes are open to anyone who wants to learn CPR but does not need to be certified. Each participant will receive a course participation card upon completion. (This is not a certification course). Free Tyke Hike: Being a big brother or sister to a newborn infant is exciting and fun, and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s free Tyke Hike program helps prepare children for their new “responsibilities.” Siblings-to-be will learn how to behave around a newborn, hold a baby properly, and other safety tips. Throughout the program, they will receive token gifts that reinforce what they learn, like a little scrub sponge to teach them the importance of washing their hands when touching the new baby. In addition, children will be taken on a short tour of the Women’s Unit, so they can see for themselves where Mommy will be having her baby. The class is held the third Thursday of every month 3 to 4:30 p.m. Toddlers to pre-teens, accompanied by adult, meet in the hospital lobby at 2:45 p.m., 23845 McBean Parkway, Valencia. Perinatal Loss and Bereavement Support Group: This support group helps anyone who is dealing with miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death in an effort to assure parents that they are not alone in their grief. The group meets the third Thursday of every month, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Pavilion meeting room, 25727 McBean Parkway, Valencia. Call (661) 253-8051.

 

Friday, August 17

Care for Your Heart Health Fair–Come learn more about your personal heart health by attending our next quarterly “Care for Your Heart” Health Fair. Participants will be given a Heart Health Passport and can take advantage of a series of free health screenings, including cholesterol and glucose tests, blood pressure checks , body fat/BMI analysis, and pulse oximetry and carbon monoxide monitoring. Free Spine Education Program at Golden Valley Plaza: Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s free Spine Education Program is now also offered at the Outpatient Physical Therapy’s location in the Golden Valley Plaza in Canyon Country (across from Lowes). The class offers valuable information on how you can take better care of your spine, including lifestyle changes that may help with pain management and prevent future injuries. Classes meet 5 to 6 p.m. every fourth Wednesday at Henry Mayo’s Outpatient Therapy Services, Golden Valley Plaza, 19013 Golden Valley Road, #125, Santa Clarita. Seating is limited. Blood Drive: In partnership with the American Red Cross, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital will hold a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the HMNMH/COC Clinical Education Center on the Henry Mayo Hospital campus. Saturday, August 25

Free Saturday Parent Tour and Preview:  This free, one-hour presentation and tour of Henry Mayo’s Women’s Unit is a unique opportunity for expectant parents and those planning a family soon to familiarize themselves with our hospital. A nurse from our Women’s Unit will take parents step-by-step through the birthing experience at our hospital, from pre-admission to discharge, answering any questions that come up, as best as she can, along the way. This presentation is followed by a firsthand tour of the unit, which includes, subject to availability, a labor and delivery room, a postpartum room, and a C-section operating room. This overview should give expectant parents a chance to experience the friendliness of our staff and their willingness to help them have the happy, secure, and relaxed birth experience that they desire. The free tour is offered on the fourth Saturday of every month from 1 to 2 p.m. Meet in the hospital lobby at 12:45 p.m., 23845 McBean Parkway, Valencia. Call (661)253-8607.
