[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a Santa Clarita woman after a fight with her in-law led to an alleged false police report Thursday, officials said.
Tania Pena, 56, of Saugus, called sheriff’s deputies to her mother-in-law’s house in the 23300 block of Lady Linda Lane, after an argument, according to Sheriff’s Station offiicials.
“We responded to a 911 call, and the woman calling said her mother-in-law was pointing a shotgun at her,” said Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Deputies responded using their emergency lights and sirens, which can pose danger to the officer and the public, officials said.
An emergency or “code 3” response is used when there’s a threat of an imminent risk to person, Cambra said.
Deputies responding were trying to avoid what they were told could have been a potential shooting incident.
When officials arrived on scene, they found the woman who called had been “slapped in her arm,” according to arrest records, and deputies found no evidence of a shooting or that a gun was used in a threatening manner.
After deputies’ on-scene investigation, Pena was arrested for “a false report of an emergency,” officials said.
The charge is a misdemeanor punishable by one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Pena is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail, according to Sheriff’s Department arrest records.
