Zonta Club of SCV will offer three of its LifeForward free workshops for women, with a focus on skills necessary in finding a job or seeking a promotion. The series begins Saturday, Oct. 18, with Job Search & Networking, followed by Resume Writing & Job Applications on Oct. 25 and Techniques of Interviewing on Nov. 15.
All three workshops will be presented by Sandi McGuire of ResCare Workforce Services, which has gained nationwide recognition for curriculum development. McGuire has more than 13 years of experience in career development.
Two of the workshops will be held at the Savia Community Center, 23780 Newhall Ave., Newhall, and the second is being transferred to Bridge to Home due to a scheduling conflict at Savia. The programs run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and women who arrive by the 10 a.m. start time are entered in a drawing for a free gift certificate. Free childcare is available for women who register in advance at (661) 288-0117. Spanish translation also can be provided with advance request.
The initial workshop will help participants search for the right job and learn the importance of networking. This workshop will be held at the regular workshop location at Savia Community Center in Newhall.
The second session will teach participants how to market their skills and expertise. This workshop only will be held at Bridge to Home, 23031 Drayton St., Santa Clarita.
The third workshop will teach participants how to present themselves and relate existing skills and expertise to the job. A successful interview is a key achievement in getting the job! The series returns to the Savia Community Center in Newhall for this concluding workshop in the series.
Zonta offers the free LifeForward workshops, usually on a monthly basis, in cooperation with Single Mothers Outreach, Domestic Violence Center, Habitat for Humanity and Los Angeles County Department of Child & Family Services. Workshops are organized by topics in which women express interest. A schedule of upcoming workshops is available at www.scvzonta.org.
