“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play, children learn how to learn.”
— O. Fred Donaldson
Spring is a season of new beginnings, longer days and renewed energy. There is no better place to channel that energy than at one of my favorite places in Santa Clarita, The Cube Ice and Entertainment Center, presented by Valencia by FivePoint.
The Cube is more than an ice rink. It is a home away from home. It is where teammates become family, where early morning practices build discipline and lifelong friendships and where the bonds formed on the ice create not only strong athletes, but strong character. In a place where camaraderie runs deep, that closeness helps shape champions both on and off the ice. As a longtime supporter of youth programs and healthy lifestyles, I am proud to see how The Cube continues to grow as a resource for our community, especially as we head into an exciting spring season full of opportunities.
One of the standout programs this season is Little Kings, an introductory hockey experience for children ages five to nine. This program is designed to be fun, welcoming and confidence-building. Through a USA Hockey-approved format, young participants learn the fundamentals of hockey while developing teamwork, discipline and a sense of belonging. Programs like Little Kings are so important because they introduce kids to physical activity in a positive environment and help spark a lifelong love for staying active.
Competitive hockey also takes center ice with the Spring Hockey Cup 2026, taking place May 21 through May 25. Teams from near and far will compete in a guaranteed four-game tournament, with championship banners and a tournament cup awarded to the winning teams. Events like this bring energy to our City, support local businesses and showcase Santa Clarita as a destination for high-quality sports and family-friendly experiences.
For those looking to learn something new or refine their skills, the LA Skating Academy offers programs for everyone from toddlers to adults. Whether you are stepping onto the ice for the first time or returning to a sport you love, age-specific classes help participants build skills at their own pace. Private lessons are also available for both skating and hockey, offering personalized instruction in a supportive environment.
Beyond these featured programs, The Cube continues to offer a wide range of activities for the entire community. From ice skating classes and the Legends Hockey League to public skating sessions, there is always something happening. The facility also serves as a popular venue for birthday parties, corporate events and community gatherings, making it a true year-round destination.
As we welcome spring, I encourage families, youth and residents of all ages to take advantage of everything The Cube has to offer. Staying active, building community and supporting programs that invest in our youth make Santa Clarita stronger.
