UPDATE Saturday morning: Edison reports that power remains off for 77 customers near the Granary Square shopping center in Valencia. The estimated restoration time is noon.
UPDATE Friday night: Power was restored for most Newhall customers at about 9:30 p.m. According to Edison, 77 customers in Newhall continued to be affected and there was no estimate on the time power would be restored.
The 162 customers behind Granary Square remained without power Friday night. Edison crews were working to fix an equipment problem, and as of midnight, Edison was estimating a restoration time of 7 a.m.
INITIAL STORY: Southern California Edison is reporting two separate outages Friday that are affecting more than 1,800 electrical customers in Newhall and Valencia.
The larger outage is in Newhall, where 1,655 customers are affected. It started at 7:15 p.m. Edison officials are aware of the problem but didn’t immediately know the cause.
The cause of the other outage, in the Granary Square area in Valencia, is known. Edison officials blame it on equipment problems and have notified repair crews. That outage started at 6:24 p.m. and is affecting 162 customers.
The SCVTV Media Center at 14th Street and Railroad Avenue is affected by the outage, as is much of the neighborhood. However, the Old Town Newhall Library is on, and Lyons Avenue appears to be unaffected.
Edison officials say they expect power to be restored by 9:30 p.m.
