Miguel Ibarra
Futbol Club Santa Clarita announced Tuesday that Miguel Ibarra has been selected by the Portland Timbers as a second-round draft pick in the Major League Soccer supplemental draft.
Ibarra was one of the most explosive and exciting players to play for F.C.S.C., said CEO Gerald Brunner.
“We knew we had something special in Miguel and knew he would be one to step up to the next level,” Brunner said in a statement. “Miguel has had scouts of one kind or another looking at him since he join our team out of high school in 2008.”
Ibarra started playing club soccer in 2004 with the Antelope Valley Ambush, which he led into first place. At Lancaster High School, he captured the MVP title in 2006 and 2007, scoring 26 goals and six assists with three hat tricks in his senior year.
After high school he joined the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League with the Lancaster Rattlers – now the F.C.S.C. Storm – before receiving a full scholarship to UC Irvine where he ranked No. 10 in the nation in collegiate soccer.
In 2012 at Irvine he leads the team with nine goals and eight assists, including four game-winning goals.
