The LA Daily News released its All-Area teams for the 2015 Boys and Girls Basketball seasons with a number of Santa Clarita players and teams being recognized.
In the Boy’s, Hart Senior Guard Myles Franklin was named to the First Team All-Area. Franklin was Co-Player of the year in the Foothill League averaging 22 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Indians. In addition, Franklin was named to the All-CIF team at the end of the season.
Santa Clarita also took home Game of the Year Honors in Boys Basketball with a Heritage League classic back on January 30th between Trinity Classical and Santa Clarita Christian. The game was featured on SCVTV and was an instant classic, as both teams traded jabs throughout, but neither could put the other away as the game went all the way down to the final shot in double-overtime. Santa Clarita’s Bryce Wilkinson hit clutch 3-pointers to send the game to overtime and double-overtime, but it was Trinity’s Ian Caddow who stole the spotlight as he banked in a three at the buzzer in double-OT to send Trinity home winners.
In the Girls ranks three players earned all area honors. Valencia Sophomore Guard Kayla Konrad was named to the First Team All-Area after averaging 15.8 points, 8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.7 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game, helping her team to the Foothill League title and establishing herself as a player to watch for the next two years.
Konrad’s teammate Talia Roth was awarded with Second Team All-Area honors after a strong senior season where she put up 13.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.5 steals per game in her final High School Season. Roth was also selected one of the two team captains for the Santa Clarita Hoops Finale in the girls division.
The opposing captain for the Hoops Finale was Hart’s Breeze Kimble. She was also named to the Second Team All-Area after her fourth and final season at the varsity level in the Foothill league. Kimble averaged 14.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.8 steals, and 1.1 blocks from the guard position, helping the Indians reach the 2A semifinals. She was a First Team All-Foothill League and All-CIF Selection as well.
