LANCASTER – Lancaster was unable to overcome nine unanswered runs from San Jose in a 10-5 loss to the Giants Saturday at The Hangar.
The Giants scored three in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth to hand the JetHawks a loss on Cinco de Mayo.
Lancaster (15-15) had a three-run lead in the early going before things went south. The JetHawks scored in the first three innings, capped off by an Alan Trejo home run to go in front, 4-1. Trejo recorded his fifth three-hit game Saturday to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
San Jose (18-12) promptly tied the game with three in the fourth inning against Lancaster starter Trey Killian (pictured above). The Giants then scored six runs on five hits in the fifth against Kenny Oakley (0-2). San Jose’s six runs were the most for a Lancaster opponent in an inning this year.
Raffi Vizcaino (2-2) allowed four runs in six innings to earn the win for San Jose. Both of the righty’s victories this year have come at the JetHawks’ expense. Nolan Riggs pitched the final three innings, picking up his first save.
Roberto Ramos saw his run of consecutive games with a home run come to an end at four in the loss. He hit into two of the four double plays that San Jose turned. Manny Melendez was able to push his hit streak to 12 games with a single in the seventh inning.
Salvador Justo and Alexander Guillen were perfect over the final 4.1 inning for the JetHawks. The two combined to retire the final 13 batters of the game for San Jose.
Here’s the box score.
San Jose clinched a winning record at the Hangar with the victory. The Giants have taken four of the first five from the JetHawks this season. Prior to this year, San Jose had not won a series at The Hangar since 2011.
Lancaster would try to avoid getting swept for the first time this season in the finale Sunday afternoon.
