Santa Clarita Valley high school sports roundup for Thursday March 10, 2016:
High School Basketball
Both the Canyon Cowboys girls and Hart Indians boys basketball teams are still alive in the CIF State Division III playoffs with victories last night.
The No. 2 seed Cowboys outmatched Exeter cruising to a 63-43 victory at Canyon High Wednesday evening. Sophomore Rachel Bowers finished the night with a game-high 17 points. The Cowboys will host Lakeside of Lake Elsinore Saturday at 6pm.
Hart put up a 10 point victory against LA City Section Champion Crenshaw, winning 61-51. Chad Donohoe score 15 points as the Indians again found a way to win despite a poor shooting night. The Indians will next take on the No. 1 seeded and Southern Seciton Divison 2AA Champion Ayala on Saturday night.
High School Soccer
After a come from behind victory in the first round of the CIF State Division IV soccer tournament, the Valencia Vikings boys soccer will host No. 3 Fremont on Thursday at Valenica High’s Paul Priesz Stadium. Game time is 4pm.
High School Baseball
Canyon came away with its fourth straight victory to improve to 4-1 on the early 2016 season with a 7-2 win over Venice in the Southern California Invitational Tournament.
Golden Valey also picked up a victory in the tournament with an 8-4 win over Verdugo Hills, improving their record to 1-4.
Saugus, West Ranch, and Valencia all scored victories in the Easton tournament. Saugus defeated Malibu 12-0, West Ranch knocked off Burbank 6-1 and Valencia dismantled Alemany 10-2.
Hart did not play on Wednesday.
West Ranch will play again Thursday and Friday against El Camino Real and Oaks Christian, while Hart, Canyon, Saugus and Valencia will play again on Saturday.
