High School Soccer
The Valencia Vikings boys soccer team completed their run to the CIF IV Southern California Regional Championship with a 2-1 win over Godinez on Mar. 12. Patrick Miller scored the game winning goal in the 71st minute to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.
The victory completes the longest boys soccer run in Santa Clarita Valley history as the Vikings because the first team to win a regional playoff game and the regional championship.
High School Basketball
The Canyon girls basketball team was knocked out of the CIF Division III state playoffs on Saturday. The Cowboys lost 47-45 on a late three by Lakeside’s Marissa Williams. Talia Taufassau and Shauna VanGrinsvine lead the Cowboys with 11 points on the game.
The Hart boys basketball team also dropped at close one on Saturday night in the second round of the boys state playoffs, 76-74 to number one seed Ayala. Chad Donohoe hit eight three pointers on the night in the Indians loss.
High School Softball
Saugus went 3-2 in the Tournament of Champions over the weekend. The Centurions improved their season record to 6-3 with victories over California, Roosevelt and South Hills.
Valencia on the other hand struggled in the same tournament going 2-3.
High School Baseball
Saugus swept a 2 game series with Thousand Oaks over the weekend to improve to 5-2.
The Centurions won game on 2-0 as Freshman Brandyn Cruz picked up the victory, while in game two the Centurions dropped eight runs on the Lancers, but allowed seven, squeaking by with an 8-7 victory.
Hart defeated Santiago on the road by a final of 3-1 to for their fourth win of the young season.
Canyon fell to Dos Pueblos 5-2 allowing five unanswered runs after taking an early 1-0 lead.
West Ranch only managed three hits in the first game of a double header Saturday against Oaks Christian, falling to the Lions 2-0 in game one. Game two was not much better as the Wildcats bats came alive to the tune of five runs, but the pitching went to sleep, allowing nine, dropping the game 9-5.
The Wildcats added a third loss in three days, this time a 5-0 shutout to Orange Lutheran.
All six Foothill league teams will be in action through the week.
