On Friday, Jan. 16, surrounded by his loved ones and Sheriff’s Department colleagues, we officially renamed the Castaic Sports Complex in honor of Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer.

As many will remember, Deputy Clinkunbroomer tragically lost his life in the line of duty in September 2023. Before we unveiled the new signage emblazoned with his name, we heard heartfelt stories from people who knew Ryan best and loved him most. Ryan was a beloved son, brother, fiancé, friend and mentor who is remembered for his kind heart and unwavering dedication to the people he loved.

He was also a fourth-generation Sheriff’s deputy, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather, and both his mom and dad. He served as a field training officer, not only teaching new deputies what to do on the job, but showing them how to do it with heart.

We selected the Castaic Sports Complex to bear Ryan’s name because he grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley and played sports there as a young boy. Our county parks are where children grow, play, and learn teamwork and leadership. The complex is filled with energy, hope, and potential, qualities that Ryan exemplified every day.

With support and funding from the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, we also announced a scholarship in Ryan’s name to fund youth programs onsite that will uplift and empower the next generation of local kids.

Today, we ensured that Ryan’s name, and the values he stood for, will live on forever. The Ryan M. Clinkunbroomer Castaic Sports Complex will serve as a lasting reminder of what it means to live with purpose, to serve with honor, and to lead with heart.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger represents the Fifth Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County which is home to nearly two million people. The district covers 2,785.21 square miles and touches the Ventura, Kern and San Bernardino County lines. The Fifth Supervisorial District includes portions of 20 cities, including Santa Clarita, 63 unincorporated communities and 15 neighborhoods in the city of Los Angeles.
