A man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday which injured an LAPD motorcycle officer.
Philip Scott Newlyn, 28, of Elk Grove, was arrested after he was reportedly identified as the owner of a 2016 Toyota Tundra truck that struck a motorcycle officer around 9:33 a.m. and fled the scene near Castaic.
As of Thursday morning he has yet to be booked, according to LASD records.
The officer involved in the crash was released from Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with non-threatening injuries.
“Based on the witnesses’ and the LAPD officer’s statements and preliminary evidence at the scene, it appears that a full size white pick-up truck intentionally struck the rear of the on-duty LAPD motor, pushing it for a considerable distance,” according to a CHP press release. “The motor officer was able to remain on the motorcycle; however, he was injured from the impact. The injury was not life threatening, and has since been released from the hospital. The suspect vehicle fled the scene southbound on I-5. ”
