1828 - Soledad Canyon settler John Lang born in Herkimer County, N.Y. [story]
Lang

An 18-year-old Newhall man was killed Wednesday afternoon when he lost control of his car and collided with an oncoming vehicle on San Francisquito Canyon Road in Saugus.

According to a CHP report, Andrew A. Reynoso was traveling southbound at about 55mph when his 2001 Toyota Corolla began to drift onto the right shoulder.

Reynoso apparently over-corrected when he attempted to steer back onto the roadway.

“The vehicle began to spin in a counter-clockwise rotation,” the report states. Reynoso then “steered to the right and the vehicle began to spin in a clockwise rotation while entering the opposing northbound traffic lane.”

Coming north at 50mph to 55mph was Cynthia M. Sheldon, 43, of Lancaster, in a 2005 Mitsubishi Galant.

Sheldon “applied her brakes but could not stop,” the report states. “The left side of (Reynoso’s) vehicle at the driver’s side door collided with the front of (Sheldon’s) vehicle.”

The collision occurred at 5:04 p.m. on San Francisquito just north of Lowridge Place, about a mile north of Copper Hill Drive.

Reynoso and Sheldon were transported to Henry Mayo Hospital in Valencia, where Reynoso was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m.

Sheldon escaped with minor injuries.

San Francisquito was temporarily closed to traffic.

The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.

  8. Tony Hidalgo says:

Speed kills. It’s not that hard to understand…… You would think.

  9. Jamie Morton says:

I drove by this right after it happened. So sad.

  10. I live on San francisquito, people drive like idiots around the tight turns and don’t go the 25 speed limit and take off at 50 on the turns. I’m not surprised this happened again this year. This year at least two horses have gotten hit and killed, cars have gotten into accidents and now there are two deaths. Santa clarita needs to start paying attention. Obviously this boy was going 55 around the turns and got cocky. He made a horrible choice that now brings mourning and sadness to his family.

  11. Why would someone care why some one would like a post when there is a young person dead?

  12. Sad. Prayers for his family.

  13. It’s not just speed that kills! It’s the people that are driving below the posted speed limit which causes people to do rash and dumb things!! Pull over let the people go by!!!

  14. Gloria Cruz says:

I believe a like when tragic news is reported means that we sympathize with the tragedy or situation . It’s common sense really .

  15. Lisa Licht says:

I agree he was on the straight part, maybe he dozed off???

  16. Bee Knight says:

He was probably texting…. Don’t rule that one out.

  17. Charity Renee drive safely out there!

  18. Since people are replying to my comment, I LIVE ON THE STRAIGHT PART OF SAN FRANCISQUITO. GUESS WHERE THE HORSES AND THE OTHER DEATHS HAPPENED AT??? THE STRAIGHT PART OF THE ROAD THAT YOU ARE ALL MENTIONING. The turns all have blind spots coming up to the straight part of San francisquito. I go 40 maximum on the straight way of San francisquito. This kid was going 55??? Seriously, talk to me when you have actually had to witness the incidents constantly your entire life like I have. Even my uncle who lived in green valley says the same exact thing I say and he agrees at least one person and many horses die on the “straight way” of San francisquito every year. By the way I also was involved as a witness to a car accident to one of my friends who was driving 55 ON THE STRAIGHT WAY OF SAN FRANCISQUITO

  19. Brad Becker says:

    Raise awareness for what?

  20. Oscar Cano says:

Who cares why he crashed the point is someone died, and a death is a death the family is going to feel the loss

  21. Santa clarita needs to change the speed limits on San francisquito. That’s what we need to raise awareness to. And have highway patrol monitor it a lot more often.

    • Changing the speed limit will do nothing to stop the loss of life on San Fran.I live in Green Calley where the speed limit is 35mph but people do up tp 100 miles an hour through our town.My niece was killed on San Fran in 2002 by a woman doing 70+mph.As I sit outside tonight,I hear and see people driving 70mph.

  22. Kim Sloan says:

Just so horrible. Prayers and heartfelt condolences to his family.

  23. The lady is a good friend of mine, the driver who caused this accident was texting. Why is that not in the article? Distracted driving is just as deadly as speeding.

  24. This is my little brother who died. All the negativity is Unnecessary. My brother died and you guys are arguing over things that ate not important. My brother had his whole life ahead of him he just graduated high school. He was a great kid never got in trouble or caused problems. He drove safe. How dare you guys say things to discredit him. This wasnt a punk kid who text and drove or speed raced He was an honest and kind hearted individual. If you dont have anything nice to say dont.

    • PAT SPEED says:

  35. This is my little brother who died. All the negativity is Unnecessary. My brother died and you guys are arguing over things that are not important. This wasnt a punk kid who text and drove or speed raced He was an honest and kind hearted individual. If you dont have anything nice to say dont.

  36. I’m so sorry for your loss Angeles, it’s a tragedy for sure to lose anyone so young. I can’t even imagine what you and your family are going through right now. My comment was not intended to be cruel or hurtful, I had heard he was texting or distracted which caused the accident. As a daily commuter of that road, and with the recent accidents lately, it makes me very worried of my own safety, there are many other drivers thst do drive too fast or distracted. God bless.

  37. Angeles, I’m sorry for your loss of your brother. I can only imagine the heart break you feel. and I’m sorry you have to see the words of ignorant, judgmental people. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

  48. This is so sad & heartbreaking. My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

  49. Adam Tapia says:

It just sad that people can’t be remorseful for the families who have lost loved ones. People like to jump to conclusion and assume. We have all lost love ones and need to remember how it felt before making indecent comments. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends.

  50. Rik W says:

We have to many accidents on this highway. Please slow down, please do the speed limit.Green Valley has a speed limit of 35mph but people do as much as 100mph through the 3 minutes it takes to go through Green Valley.

  51. Pls no more loss of life….my condolences to your family

  52. So sorry for the Moreno family’s loss.

  53. May his soul rest in peace and may God give comfort and strength to his family and friends.

  54. Kari Damann says:

FYI I drive that road everyday you can’t text on that road because no service so obviously he wasn’t! If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t

  55. May the love of the angels enfold him in their wings and surround you during this painful time.

  56. To his family and friends, I am so sorry and sad for your devastating loss. I can’t even imagine your pain. God bless and comfort you all.

  57. Having been a firemen in Santa Clarita Valley for over 15 years, it is never easy going on accidents involving our youth. They need to grow up and live life to their fullest. They need to realize that going fast has no reward. It can only bring sorrow to those we love. Slow down so we can celebrate your accomplishments not your life once gone.

  58. Tonya Winn says:

Godspeed to this young man and joyful remembrance of his life for his family and friends.

  59. Barbara Hall says:

Rip young man and prayers for your grieving family x

  60. Very sad. I was heading back to the AV two hours before. People need to slow down on San Fran, just not worth it.

  61. Beth says:

Angeles Moreno don’t let feeds like this bother you..my in laws were both killed in a tragic accident and It was all over the papers and blogs that apparently the driver was on drugs or drinking when in fact he died of a heart attack and lost control of the car thus killing my mother n law with him. The fact of the matter no mattter what the cause was it was a horrible, tragic accident. I have a son who is 17 and I drive that rode everyday to see my horse. I am scared to death every time I am on it. My heart hurts for you and your family….sometimes like I found out we can’t always make sense of the master plan in life. Hugs and Prayers to you all!

  62. Silvie Faust says:

    Prayers for his family.

  63. Well people I don’t know much but what I red That road is a nice drive of u drive it but But if ur speeding or texting or even talking on the phone it’s not a good road now I know most accidents are caused by something done by a driver

  64. Jodi Daniels says:

WHY on earth is everyone arguing???? I see people I KNOW telling lies here, I see sooo much disrespect to this family who JUST lost a young man- who was JUST beginning his life. I drive San Francisquito EVERY single day- yes people drive like idiots, but this is NOT the time or place for that discussion.. let the family grieve! If you don’t have something positive to write.. don’t. If you want to discuss speed, the road, etc- take it to another forum.. the family does NOT need to see all of this arguing, bickering.. NONE of you were in that car, you have NO idea if either of them were texting.. or anything so quit assuming.. and let this family grieve. SO many of you should be ashamed of yourself.. put yourself in the family’s shoes.. would you want to see crap written about your loved ones?

  65. Prayers for both families. Though this took a life and may affect one more than the other. .Needless to say..its a huge on both sides..my condolences

  66. Maybe these thoughts will open the eyes of some of the people who drive too fast. This death will not be without noticed. My heart goes out to the family.

  67. I am the Mother in Law of a kind, caring, spiritual lady who is the other victim. She is suffering beyond words, both for her own injuries and the horrible pain the family is trying to endure. Our hearts are deeply with all those suffering. She said she did everything in her power to keep this tragedy from happening, but there was nothing more she could do. We are a very loving family and the tears flow for all concerned. Our daughter died suddenly recently and we know what grief is all about. May our dear Lord keep you close to Him and in his time you will all be togethe. Our deep love to this dear family.

  68. My heart goes out to the friends and family of the young life that was lost. And to those who are trying to prove a point by putting the blame on Andrew, you should be ashamed of yourselves. A life was lost, another human being just like yourselves. Have respect and pay your dues.

  69. So agree with Jodi note a time to argue blame or say anything negative the time is it just say prayers for the family :) my heart goes out to this family
