COC Cougars
What looked like such a promising year halfway through the season, ended with a three-game losing streak and no bowl invitation for the Canyons Cougars. The Cougars now look forward to the Spring of 2016 to find answers as to what went wrong down the stretch.
Though there will be no postseason American football, there will be postseason world football for COC, as the Cougars’ women’s soccer team will compete in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Tournament, opening this Saturday in an 8 vs 9 matchup.
The No. 8 Cougars are up against the No. 9 Santiago Canyon Hawks at College of the Canyons, scheduled for a Saturday 2:00 PM kickoff. Canyons enters the tournament behind the strength of a 5th consecutive Western State Conference South title.
Santa Clarita High School Football
It’s the day before the showdown at Chino Hills High School between the Valencia Vikings and Chino Hills Huskies.
After gearing up for the pass against South Hills, the Vikings will have to switch their focus toward the running game of the Huskies. The Huskies rushed for over 200 yards per game this season with a two-headed senior attack from tailbacks Curtis Price and Grady O’Donnell. The two seniors combined for 25 rushing touchdowns.
Valencia has played excellent run defense this year, having not allowed a 100-yard rusher since Week 3 against Highland (a 42-7 Vikings victory). They suffocated each Foothill League team in a run-heavy 2015 Foothill League season. Expect Larry Muir’s team to be well-prepared for the opposition tomorrow night.
