And then there were four. Four teams are all that remain as the best Division 5 volleyball teams in the State.

The Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals squared off with Upland Christian Academy just ten days ago for the CIF-SS title, falling to the Eagles in four games.

Tuesday night in Upland, the Cardinals will go for revenge with the opportunity to play for the CA state championship and southern California bragging rights on the line.

This has all the makings of a full-blown rivalry game and instant classic. Which birds will soar higher?

Santa Clarita High School Basketball

Rough start to the year for the Hart boys’ basketball team, losers of three straight to begin 2015/16 season.

Competing in the Pacific Shores Tournament at Redondo Union High School, the Indians lost to Inglewood early last week, then to Crespi and El Camino Real over the weekend.

It will be back-to-back tournaments for the Indians, who head to Westchester for the Trevor Ariza Tip-Off tournament; they’ll play George Washington Prep tonight, tip-off is at 5:45 PM.

Valencia’s ladies’ basketball team went 3-1 over the Thanksgiving break in the Palisades Beach Invitational. After dropping the 2nd tournament game 68-57 to Chaminade, the Vikings (3-1) bounced back with a blowout victory against Millikan and a close 61-59 win over the host Palisades.

Two more Foothill League girls basketball teams tip-off their seasons tonight.

Marymount visits the Saugus Centurions (late kickoff at 8 PM), while the West Ranch Wildcats travel to St. Paul with a 7:30 start.

Santa Clarita High School Soccer

The Canyon Cowboys begin their 2015/16 soccer campaign this evening at home against Muir High School. It is both teams’ season opener. Kickoff is at 5:30 PM.

Los Angeles Lakers

In what was an emotional Sunday Night at Staples Center, just hours after Kobe Bryant released his thoughtful poem to Basketball detailing his career’s end after the season, the Lakers legend again showed why it’s time for the 20-year veteran to walk away.

Bryant shot 5-20 against the Indiana Pacers, and none of the other Lakers did much in the way of helping (collectively LA shot 38,4% from the field), as Los Angeles (2-14) made it six straight losses after the 107-103 home loss to Indiana.

Tomorrow is as big game as there is this season for the Lakers, who are in competition with the woeful Philadelphia 76ers for the worst record in the NBA. Philly has not won a game this season in 18 tries.
