Community members are invited to welcome in the New Year with a splash at the 7th annual Glacier Slide Polar Bear Swim, held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center, located at 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway.
For Santa Clarita residents, this free event has become a popular community tradition featuring icy waters, refreshments and a commemorative gift.
“The Polar Bear Swim is a memorable experience for those who are brave enough to endure the water’s chilly temperature. This year, bring the whole family over to the Aquatics Center and start a new tradition by ushering in 2013 with an ice cold splash,” said Mayor Bob Kellar.
The Aquatics Center will open at 8:45 a.m. with the Glacier Slide Polar Bear Swim commencing at 9:00 a.m. Coffee, hot chocolate, tea and heaters will be provided to warm up participants after the plunge. Spectators are welcome.
The Aquatics Center waterslide pool will not be open for recreational swimming on January 1 and will close immediately following the Glacier Slide Polar Bear Swim.
