BOCA RATON, Fla. — No. 4 UCLA (6-3) posted its third sweep of the season with a 5-0 win at No. 17 Florida Atlantic (6-4) on Wednesday afternoon at the FAU Beach Volleyball Complex on the campus of Florida Atlantic.

The Bruins won the first point on court five when junior Laurel Weaver and senior Julie Consani defeated Florida Atlantic’s Nicole Grant/Natalie Fraley in straight sets, 23-21, 21-10.

UCLA went up 2-0 on court four after sophomore Reily Buechler and freshman Zana Muno dispatched FAU’s Ashlan Cunningham and Jazmine Barker in come-from-behind fashion, 20-22, 21-17, 15-7.

Court two was the decisive victory for UCLA when the Bruins clinched the match going up 3-0 as sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey defeated the Owls’ Heather Weiss and Chelsey Tekavec, 21-13, 21-14.

The Bruins made it 4-0 on court one when the freshman pair of Nicole McNamara and Megan McNamara defeated FAU’s Delaney Clesen/Gabrielle Dischler in straight-sets, 21-13, 21-13.
Court three completed the 5-0 sweep for UCLA when the Bruins’ duo of senior Kamila Tan and sophomore Ivey Schmitt defeated the Florida Atlantic tandem of Brittany Pellitteri and Andrea Galinis in straight sets, 21-11, 21-19.

In exhibition play, the Bruins’ pairing of senior Rachel Inouye and junior Jordan Anderson took down the Owls’ Nicole Navarro and Kaitlyn Smith, 21-11, 21-15.

The Bruins return to action on Friday, March 25 when they travel to DeLand, Fla., to take part in the Stetson Beach Invitational. UCLA opens play at 6:00 a.m. PT against No. 10 Florida International and then will face No. 2 Florida State at Noon in a rematch won by the Seminoles, 3-2, in Santa Monica, Calif., on March 10.
