2014 - Towsley Canyon Loop Trail named for naturalist Don Mullally [story]

[KHTS] – The 14th Annual Vine 2 Wine Classic attracted about 300 guests to the Santa Clarita Activities Center on Saturday night to benefit Circle of Hope Inc.

The event featured more than 80 different types of wines from 27 wineries, as well as 16 different types of beer.

“Most of the wineries are coming from Sonoma, Napa and Paso Robles,” said Ray Tippet, executive director of Circle of Hope, Inc., a cancer support nonprofit. “We’ve got a couple people here that are pouring their library wines that they keep in their cellars. They’re one of a kind wines, which is kind of fun.”

Vine-2-WineGuests also enjoyed food from 16 restaurants and caterers.

“(The restaurants and caterers are) all local organizations that are here to help promote and provide support for Circle of Hope and for the community,” said Tippet.

It was estimated that between $35,000 and $40,000 was raised at Saturday’s event. 100 percent of the proceeds went back to Circle of Hope, said Tippet.

“All of this is to benefit our clients who are individuals diagnosed with cancer in the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Pam Ripling, president of Circle of Hope, Inc. “We provide emotional, educational and financial support for those battling cancer for those who live or work in the Santa Clarita Valley.”

The event is held normally at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia and attracts about 800 people, however due to CalArts undergoing a major renovation, the event was scaled down, said Ripling.

“(This event) is becoming a go-to event in Santa Clarita. People look forward to it. … I love it because people really have a good time,” said Ripling. “We have a saying that there are two kinds of people that go to events, there are people who go because they want to support the cause and there are people who go just to have fun. When you can attract both types of people to your event, you’ve been successful. Even the ones that are just coming to have fun can feel good about the fact that they had a great time and helped some people at the same time. For me, we put on event that caters to both types of people.”

Attendees of the Vine 2 Wine Classic left the event with a bottle of Lucy Wine, made by Pisoni Vineyards, Ripling said.

Vine 2 Wine Classic attendee Eve Rumley has been to the event for the past four years.

“(This event) is very close to my heart because my aunt passed away with breast cancer. I live in Santa Clarita and I want to give back,” said Rumley. “It’s a good fundraiser for Circle of Hope, it’s very enjoyable, the wine is great and the food has been good.”

The event, which ran from 6 – 10 p.m., featured Silver Oak Wines, Flowers Single Vineyard Pinot and Stags’ Leap Investor wines at the Circle of Hope table and wine from Pisoni Vineyards, Gagnon Cellars, Brassfield Eruption, Pagter Brothers Winery, The Calling Dutton Ranch Pinot, White Rock Vineyards, Southern Wine and Spirits, Italian Wines, Canoe Ridge Winery, WA and Chateau Bonnet Winery, One True Vine Wines, Cline Family Vineyards, Laetitia Vineyards, Gamble Family Vineyards, Joseph Carr Winery, Alpha Omega, Zaca Mesa Winery, V2 Wine Group, Jamieson Ranch Vineyards, Golden Star Vineyards, Reyes Winery, Temerity Vineyard, Opolo Vineyards, Tolo Cellars, Jacobson Family Library Wines, Library Wines provided by Russ and Leslie Bretall, Leviathan Red Blend, Jacks House Cabernet and Brassfield Pinot Gris.

Breweries included Stella Artois, Goose Island Summer Ale and IPA, Wolf Creek Brewery and three assorted craft brews.

Food was provided by Kokolita Cakes, Vincenzo’s Pizza, JJ’s Bar and Grill, Truffles and Toffee, Hidden Havana, Smokin’ Bar-B-Quties, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Rita’s Italian Ice, Eat Real Cafe, Rattler’s Bar B Que, Solita Tacos and Margaritas, Stonefire Grill, Las Delicias as well as assorted cheeses and ice cream provided by Circle of Hope.
