A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area (Zone 6):

Between Friday the 25th and Sunday the 27th, a residential burglary occurred at the apartment complex in the 21200 block of Bottletree Drive. The garage door was forced open and several items were stolen. (ref 14739)

Between Sunday the 27th at 10:00 p.m., and Monday the 28th at 10:00 a.m., a vehicle burglary occurred in the 21200 block of Ficus Drive. There was no evidence of forced entry, but a stereo component was stolen. (ref 14760)

On Monday the 28th at 4:00 p.m., a 29 year-old female was robbed by force behind the Chevron Station at 20500 Newhall Ave. The victim reported there were bystanders who saw the crime occur, but nobody called to report the crime. In the morning hours of Tuesday the 29th, a 34 year-old resident of the Polynesian Mobile Home Park at 23450 Newhall Ave severely beat his 60 year-old Aunt during an argument. After she came to the station to report it, we responded to the residence and arrested the suspect. He was charged with felony battery and is currently being held on $30,000 bail awaiting court proceedings.

Between Monday the 28th at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday the 29th at 6:45 a.m., a generator was stolen from the back of a truck parked in the 24500 block Ebelden Ave. (ref 14957)

All of us need to practice good crime prevention when we park our personal or work vehicles. Every time you park, take a second to ensure your vehicle is locked and ensure there is nothing in plain view that is valuable or could possibly contain something valuable. I have taken many vehicle burglary reports where the only items stolen were empty laptop bags, boxes containing nothing of value or backpacks containing school books. A couple seconds can prevent the cost of replacing a window and the hassle of having to deal with it.

A note of historical significance for the Sheriff’s Department in Santa Clarita: November 8th marks the 87th anniversary of the opening of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s substation No. 6, known as the Newhall Sheriff’s Station. The station was located on the corner of 6th Street and San Fernando Road. It wasn’t until 1972 that the current Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station opened its doors at 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway.
