Derek Millsap
A candlelight vigil will be held Friday at 8 p.m. in the Youth Grove at Central Park for former Canyon Country resident and Canyon High graduate Derek Anthony Millsap, 22, who was killed Tuesday afternoon when he was allegedly racing another driver and crashed into the center divider of Interstate 15 in Escondido.
10News.com of San Diego reported that Millsap was driving a 2011 Nissan 370Z and had been stopped at a freeway onramp next to a black truck. When the light changed to green, both drivers accelerated onto the onramp.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Millsap lost control of his car, which hit a light pole and continued into the freeway traffic, crossing all lanes before coming to rest against the center divider in the carpool lane.
After the collision, the truck driver fled. Millsap was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was an adult, and at 22 most adults know better. He’s lucky didn’t kill anyone else with his recklessness.
