This September, the Santa Clarita Public Library will host the 2nd Annual Science in September series Wild-life! Predators, Parasites and Partners for home-schooled students.

Students in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in the free programming, which begins on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 and continues for four weeks.  Classes will be held every Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Valencia Library, located at 23743 Valencia Boulevard.

Returning to teach this year’s series is biologist and Professor Dr. Joe Francis, who will discuss the topics of predators, parasites and partners in the natural world.  Each class will feature observation of dissection, specimen handling and observation, microscopy, note-taking, and illustrating from scientific observation.

Dr. Joe Francis is a biologist and has been involved in natural science research for 30 years.  He received two Bachelor of Science degrees in Microbiology and Public Health as well as completing his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical School.  With 20 years’ experience teaching at the college level, he is currently a professor at The Master’s College.

Students must be registered to participate in the class.  Registration is available at SantaClaritaLibrary.com by clicking on the “Events” tab and then selecting “Science in September” within the calendar.  Space is limited to ensure optimal learning and a composition notebook is required to be brought to class each week.
