1906 - Bercaw General Store opens in Surrey (Saugus) [story]
Bercaw Store

A woman entered the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station lobby Wednesday at about 1 p.m. with a small cardboard box from a manufacturer labeled “explosives.”

The contents of the box were still sealed in what appeared to be factory packaging.  The woman claimed she found the box in a storage unit she owned.

The box was placed outside the station.  Sheriff’s Arson Explosives Detail detectives immediately responded and processed the package for disposal.  The detectives stated that their preliminary investigation showed the package appeared to be a small industrial explosive.

Arson Explosives Detail detectives are continuing their investigation in what appears to be a non-criminal incident.

The station lobby is currently open, and the device has been removed from the premises.

Please, if you find something that looks like it could possibly be an explosive, don’t touch it.  Call local law enforcement and let the Bomb Squad render the object safe.    Never transport what appears to be an explosive and, in particular, please do not transport the object/package to a law enforcement or fire department facility.

Rather than poking fun at her, consider this: at least she took responsibility for the box and took it to a place where she could obtain assistance disposing of it. She could have tossed it in the storage facility’s dumpster or out of her car window.
