[KHTS] – The victim of Thursday’s single-car crash in Valencia died from her injuries Saturday morning, Los Angeles Police Department officials confirmed.

LAPD Rampart Police Officer III Kathleen Talbot was in critical condition after her vehicle reportedly crossed the center divider and crashed into a light pole on Valencia Boulevard around 6:30 a.m on Thursday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce #LAPD Rampart Police Officer III, K. Talbot #31941 has passed away,” read a tweet on the LAPD Rampart twitter page at 11:36 a.m. Saturday.

The post was accompanied with a picture of a police badge with the words, “Thank you for protecting & serving,” written across the center.

“She was involved in a traffic collision earlier this week and has now passed away from her injuries,” said LAPD Public Information Officer Nuria Vanegas.

No further information on the injuries Talbot sustained during the crash was available as of Saturday afternoon.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies were the first to arrive at the scene of the crash and smashed a passenger window in an attempt to remove Talbot from the vehicle.

“I never saw her apply the brakes, and can only assume that she lost consciousness when she first began to drift,” said Marty Siebe, a Lebec resident who was driving behind her and witnessed the crash, in an email statement to SCVTV.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash, and an investigation into the cause of the crash is still underway, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
