[KHTS] – Emergency officials responded to Oak Tree Gun Club after they received a call about an accidental shooting Friday afternoon.
“Someone was shooting one of the guns and the gun had a malfunction,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “The gun exploded and a man standing next to the man with the gun was hit with shrapnel.”
The man who was hit with the shrapnel was believed to be in his late 20s and was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Dubin said. He is expected to recover.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials received the call at 4:01 p.m. and responded to the location. Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station officials responded to the call soon after.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are on scene and still investigating the incident.
No arrests were made, according to officials.
