[KHTS] – Three people were killed when a 2013 Tesla collided with a 2004 Toyota Corolla in Palmdale Friday night.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway near Avenue S when the Tesla rear-ende the Toyota. When the California Highway Patrol arrived on scene, the Toyota was on fire.

Three people in the Toyota, believed to be family members, were entrapped and pronounced dead on arrival. Two others, believed to be an adult and a child, were extricated and taken to nearby hospitals.

tesla070414A 40-year-old male driver, a 13-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy in the back seat were killed. All three were residents of Los Angeles. Tyree Lavon Nash, a 31-year-old resident of Lancaster, was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries. A 6-year-old was taken to Children’s Hospital L.A. in critical condition.

All passengers in the Toyota were wearing seatbelts.

Multiple innocent bystanders assisted with removing the survivors from the burning vehicle, CHP Officer Jordan Richards said.

The driver of the Tesla, identified as 58-year-old Ric Garrison of Newhall, suffered minor injuries.

There is no immediate indication that drugs or alcohol played a factor. It is unclear whether charges will be pressed against Garrison.

All southbound lanes of the 14 Freeway were shut down around 10:45 p.m. Friday. They reopened around 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

The crash comes almost 24 hours after another Tesla collided with multiple cars and caused a fiery scene in West Hollywood early Friday morning, leaving the Tesla driver in critical condition, two officers hospitalized and three others injured.

I was in tears when I saw the accident wreckage right after it happened. The car was already completely engulfed and the horn was still blaring. I could only have wished and prayed for a happier ending. My prayers are now with family members of the lost

He’s my Dr I feel so sorry for him. He has helped me so much through my illnesses.

  44. I guess this comment is specifically for 1 previous in this thread who I won’t call out by name… So you’re going 65 or so, totally dark, come around a curve and there’s a stalled car directly in front if you in the middle lane, no lights, nothing. You try and miss it but nowhere to go. And you have the nerve-knowing absolutely NOTHING about what happened- to say the driver should spend his life in prison?? You, sir, are a problem. You have no business writing such a comment when you have NO IDEA what you’re talking about.

  45. Lord jesus i offer my prayer to all affected God Bless you all – peace comfort healing everyone- sorry for the losses

  46. Lynn Renee says:

I’m sure Dr Garrison doesn’t drink. I’m pretty sure he will be okay. It was a terrible accident. His insurance will have to pay a lot.

  47. Dear God, how tragic! Praying for them and their loved ones.

  48. How sad!! Praying for all families and everyone involved!!

  49. It’s sad for all them! This should be a reminder that life is to short! You never know when it’s going to end or how! RIP….and God help Dr Garrison

  50. Couldn’t they have pushed their car off the freeway to avoid someone not seeing them stalled and hitting them from behind ? You can’t leave your car sitting on the freeway. That was bound to end badly. People shouldn’t blame the Dr., it was just a horrible accident that he couldn’t avoid. That could’ve happened to anyone coming up on a stalled car at night on the freeway.

    • BDR says:

Noone said this was the case. If you are broken down on a freeway in the middle of the freeway at night, would you even have the courage to get out of your car and try to push it, knowing you could get hit? Probably not.

      Noone knows what happened exactly.

  51. mrbrown says:

I am deeply sorry and my prayers to the victims and all involved. Thanks God the Tesla driver didnt drink. Good for him.

As an engineer, I am impressed once again on how the Tesla sustained less damage.

  52. What a tragedy, I have family in Palmdale as well.. And it’s so stressful getting trough 14 high way, it seems to me… That people it’s always on rush, cars and trucks constantly tale gating pushing to the limit. Let’s pray for this family.

  53. :-( never know when your time is up

  54. Marcia says:

Please don’t judge Dr Garrison before all the facts are in. He is grieving as much as the families of the deceased are. He is a good man. An unfortunate situation.

  55. Coming around a corner at 65 and it’s totally dark, it’s common sense to slow down for that very reason, 65 is way too fast for an area of the freeway that has poor or no lighting. As far as guilt goes, if the Dr was driving at a higher rate of speed than normal especially around a corner you can’t see, then he’s negligent on his part. On a normal stretch of highway and visibility is poor and the stopped vehicle doesn’t have working emergency lights, then the stopped vehicle is careless for that, but let’s say flashing light were on and the Dr ignored the lights and kept driving like a mad man maybe he got distracted falling asleep Dr’s work crazy hours, talking on the phone, tunnel vision, no one knows but the Dr and the surviving victims, if they can recall, but one thing is for sure SPEEDING killed them, once CHP is done with their investigation they’ll be able to determine how fast the DOC was going regardless of what he claims. Be safe out there people double check everything before driving a long distance, full tank of gas, road flares, portable bright light, tire pressure etc. don’t take noting for granted it’s very to be over cautious.

  56. Casillas says:

Aww poor children n families.. R.i.p.
