In celebration of the Santa Clarita’s 25th year of cityhood, new web pages have been added to the City’s website at www.santa-clarita.com/25.
The 25th anniversary pages include messages from the Santa Clarita City Council and City Manager, a historical look at the area, as well as a birthday quiz about the City. Photos of major projects including the Cross Valley Connector, Central Park, trails, beautification, Old Town Newhall and the Community Center are also included.
“Over the last 25 years, the City has provided the leadership and action to create an incredible place to live, work and play. The vision and collaboration that has resulted in our high quality of life will continue into the next 25 years,” commented Mayor Laurie Ender.
The City of Santa Clarita incorporated on December 15, 1987, inclusive of the communities of Newhall, Canyon Country, Saugus and Valencia and estimated at 130,000 residents in 1987. Since then, the City has completed 28 annexations, bringing the total City population to 177,500; Los Angeles’ fourth largest city.
To celebrate the quarter century mark, the City will be showcasing its various partnerships and accomplishments in public venues and various events including the State of the City luncheon (Oct. 18). A coloring contest for elementary school children this spring asks students to create a picture of the best thing about Santa Clarita. The winning student will receive a school assembly courtesy of the City.
