Oak of the Golden Dream

Another smokin’-hot weekend for music in the Santa Clarita Valley. On Friday night, the Valencia Jazz and Blues Concert series features the Tom Nolan Band. The rock ’n’ soul group takes the stage at 7 on Town Center Drive off McBean Parkway in front of the Hyatt Valencia. Proceeds from food and beverage sales help local nonprofits, but admission to the all-ages street party is free. Get more info at valenciajazzandblues.com.

suzanneharperOn Saturday night at Central Park, locals rule at Concerts in the Park. Suzanne Harper headlines the show – she won second place in last year’s national Texaco Country Showdown, sponsored locally by KHTS. Suzanne’s from north San Diego County and beat all but one of the more than 25,000 other national contestants in 2013. Also on the bill Saturday night: three Santa Clarita finalists in this year’s competition – Marie Wise-Hawkins, Annie Body’s, and J’Rose. The music starts at 7, and it’s free for all ages. Food, beverages and snacks will be available, too.

And later Saturday night, be sure catch the encore telecast of our special “House Blend” show featuring PapaFish, hosted by yours truly. The local reggae-punk-funk favorites from Northridge preview tunes from their debut album and talk with us about their colorful history. That’s PapaFish on “House Blend,” Saturday night at 10 on SCVTV and streaming everywhere at scvtv.com.
