Hart High graduate Anthony Ervin will race in the 50 meter freestyle in swimming this morning. He won a gold medal in the 50 freestyle in the 2000 Summer Games in Australia.
Saugus High graduate David Smith and the USA men’s volleyball team take on Brazil today.
The United States is ranked fifth in the world and has won its first two matches in the Summer Olympics.
Brazil is the top-ranked team in the world and is also undefeated in London.
In auto racing, Bryan Herta Autosport, coming off its best effort in the Izod IndyCar Series, heads to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for this weekend’s Honda Indy 200.
Alex Tagliani, the driver for the team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, led a race-high 49 laps and finished fifth in the Edmonton Indy race two weeks ago.
Qualifying for the Honda Indy 200 is Saturday. The race is set to start at 10 on Sunday morning.
The Dodgers were shut out, 4-0, by the Arizona Diamondbacks and swept in the three-game series at Dodger Stadium.
Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin tossed six scoreless innings, giving up only two hits and striking out five.
Shane Victorino made his debut with the Dodgers and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Outfielder and two-time All Star Bobby Abreu was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Victorino.
Newly acquired reliever Brandon League got into the game as well and gave up a run and a hit in 1/3 of an inning.
The Dodgers start a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
