For the first time in program history, The Master’s University has claimed all three weekly Golden State Athletic Conference volleyball honors as Kayla Sims was named the conference’s Setter of the Week, Maryah Richberg was named the Attacker of the Week, and Emily Clark was named the Defender of the Week.
For the third time this season, Kayla Sims (Anchorage, AK), a sophomore setter, has earned the GSAC’s Setter of the Week award after tallying 81 assists, 20 digs, and 11 kills. Last week, Sims averaged 11.57 assists per set for the Lady Mustangs.
Maryah Richberg (Santa Clarita, CA), a junior middle blocker, was pegged as the GSAC’s Attacker of the Week after earning a combined 27 kills in TMU’s wins over Menlo and William Jessup. Notably, in Richberg only had five errors and posted a 56.4% attack percentage after TMU’s matches.
Finally, TMU’s Emily Clark (Lake Forest, CA), a senior libero, was named the GSAC’s Defender of the Week after posting 26 digs and three errors.
“This is an amazing honor for The Master’s University volleyball program,” commented TMU head coach Allan Vince. “Maryah and Kayla have been connecting in the middle so well during the second half of the season, which has allowed Maryah to show her unstoppable quality as a first-option hitter. Emily Clark has been a game changer with her defense, allowing her to pass a consistent ball for our middles to crush. Kayla has continued to be a threat at the net, picking great routes for our hitters, and attacking the court when given the chance. I’m very proud of these ladies and this program.”
Now, Sims, Richberg, Clark, and the rest of the Lady Mustangs prepare for a week of road matches as TMU takes on Arizona Christian on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Phoenix, Arizona. Then, on Saturday, the Lady Mustangs will play at San Diego Christian at 7:30 p.m.
