Radio station co-owner Carl Goldman (center), an ordained minister, officiates at the wedding of Skip Newhall and the former Miss Lorena Sumaoang on Thursday at KHTS.
KHTS staff took a break from the normal work day for a special event on Thursday afternoon – the marriage of Dr. X.X. “Skip” Newhall to Lorena Sumaoang at the KHTS office in Canyon Country.
KHTS co-owner Carl Goldman, who is an ordained minister, officiated the ceremony. Skip Newhall’s brother and sister-in-law, Tony and and Reena Newhall served as witnesses.
Tony and Reena Newhall own A Chorus Line costume store in Valencia.
Skip and Tony Newhall are the children of Scott and Ruth Newhall, who owned the Santa Clarita Valley Signal between 1963 and 1978.
Skip, a retired rocket scientist at JPL, said he met Sumaoang, online, almost by accident and was drawn to her beauty and demeanor.
“I asked to marry her before I ever met her,” he said.
The couple met in person for the first time in December, said Sumaoang, who is from the Philippines.
During the wedding ceremony, Goldman shared with the couple his keys to a successful marriage, which included being generous with compliments, giving daily kindnesses to one another, making the home a refuge and founding their relationship on truth.
The couple plans to honeymoon in San Francisco when the weather permits, because Sumaoang has never seen the city or its iconic cable cars, Skip Newhall said.
This is Skip Newhall’s fourth marriage, and he decided to have the ceremony at the KHTS office because Goldman was willing, and “I didn’t want to take another chance on a Las Vegas marriage,” he said
After the couple exchanged vows and rings, Skip Newhall promised to love and romance Sumaoang for the rest of her days.
“You are an endearing, elegant and very beautiful woman,” he said.
