Three schools were put on lockdown for a short time in Newhall early Friday after two men who reportedly had a gun were spotted near the schools.
The incident occurred near 16th Street and Orchard Village Road when someone reportedly saw two Hispanic men waving a firearm, according to Shirley Miller with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
As a precaution, Newhall Elementary School, Placerita Junior High and Hart High School were all placed on lockdown around 8:39 a.m. and the lockdown was lifted at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to Miller.
“We were informed of a situation and the SCV Sheriff’s Station asked for Hart and Placerita to go on lockdown,” said Dave Caldwell, PIO for the William S. Hart Union School District.
Deputies responded to the area as a precaution but were unable to find the suspects and there was no evidence that they were on school property.
