A Newhall man has been convicted by a jury of murdering his 25-year-old wife Courtney Avisu in a domestic dispute in 2015.
Robert Arvizu, 50, of Newhall, was convicted Monday. The jurors deliberated for less than a day in the case before finding him guilty of first-degree murder. He was also found guilty of an assault the same day.
Closing arguments wrapped up Friday morning, and the jury was given the case to deliberate in the afternoon.
The jury was expected to not only determine Arvizu’s guilt or innocence, but in finding him guilty, there were varying degrees of punishment, according to officials.
Arvizu is due back in court for sentencing August 15.
