Brooke White, a star from Season 7 of “American Idol,” will kick off the 2nd Annual Castaic Relay For Life at Castaic Lake on March 31 at 10 a.m.
White will perform some of her original music and hold a meet-and-greet afterward for fans to have their photo taken with the singer.
The Castaic Relay For Life is a 24-hour event beginnig March 31 at 9 a.m. to raise cancer awareness while raising funds for the American Cancer Society’s programs and services.
Teams comprised of up to 12 people from local businesses, community groups and others raise funds prior to the event. Team members camp out at the relay site, and when they are not taking their turn walking, they take part in fun activities and enjoy local entertainment.
“Relay For Life brings the progress against cancer to the forefront,” said even chair Debbie Schultz. “Many participants are our family, friends, and neighbors who have dealt with cancer themselves. Their involvement is proof of the progress that has been not only reducing death rates, but also in the quality of life following cancer treatment.”
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event, held in more than 4,800 communities across the country. In California, more than 300 communities will host Relay For Life events. Two hundred community members on 25 teams are expected to participate in the event this year.
“The funds raised enable us to continue our investment in the fight back against cancer through research, education, advocacy, and patient services,” Schultz said.
Information on forming a team or getting involved in Relay For Life is available from the American Cancer Society at 661-670-0244 or http://www.relayforlife.org/CastaicCA.
