logo-lacodistrictattorney[District Attorney] – An assistant superintendent at the Palmdale Unified School District pleaded not guilty today to more than two dozen charges including dog fighting and animal cruelty, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Lyle Riggs said Pauline Ruth Winbush (dob 9/12/62) and her boyfriend Kevin Ray Williams (dob 3/15/64) face four felony counts of dog fighting, 17 felony counts of cruelty to an animal and one felony count of child abuse.

Case MA064988 includes seven Los Angeles County code violations, including unsanitary conditions and failing to license and vaccinate the dogs.

Winbush pleaded not guilty today and is due to return on Jan. 12 in Department A2 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Antelope Valley Branch. Williams is scheduled to be arraigned later today in Department A1.

According to the prosecutor, animal control officers discovered a horse belonging to the defendants roaming the streets on Oct. 29. Numerous additional animals were discovered later at the couple’s Antelope Acres home.

Among the animals were dogs that were allegedly kept inside crates filled with feces and urine which were stored inside the house where the defendants and a minor lived, the prosecutor added. A total of 19 pit bulls were recovered from the home and had to be euthanized. Riggs said that some of the dogs showed signs of being used for dogfighting.

Bail for Winbush was set at $250,000 and the prosecutor is recommending $440,000 bail for Williams.

Williams and Winbush face a possible maximum sentence of 13 years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Throw them in a prison cell with no toilet so they can experience what they put those innocent animals through. And don’t forget to beat them and toss a few morsels of something at them every now and then so they get skinny, but don’t starve to death. How people can do this to dogs is so beyond my comprehension.

Well said Carol! I think a good old fashion flogging would be o.k. Let them feel how their flesh is torn.

  4. “She enjoys spending time with her family and supporting her children in their various activities including sports, clubs, and community events.” That “various activities” has a really broad interpretation. Throw the school book at them! :-/

  5. Candice Landry says:

I’ve heard terrible things about her character and her kids act like hoodlums in public. Animal cruelty is an especially disgusting act and the school district better fire her!

  6. Kevin Jones says:

She better go to jail. I’m tired of people lik her paying their way out. Only a heartless monster would be cruel to a dog. She should also be let go from her position.

  7. Jimmy Grise says:

yeah yeah the dogs….who cares.. These are the people in charge of your children 6+ hours a day.

  8. Clarice L Griffith says:

As a teacher and counselor in the district for 27 years, who would have thought? School districts are very political and PSD is no different…cuts to the core much too often. My comment on this is Children & animals have no voice. Honestly, would you want someone in any position being your child’s voice or have their best interest at hand? Whether it was Pauline or her long time boyfriend she condoned this activity. Sometimes we are fortunate to see KARMA rear its wonderful head.

  9. EYG says:

Jimmy Grise, the fact that you don’t care about the dogs doesn’t instill much confidence in your own parenting abilities. These sub-humans need to be thrown in prison for life as far as I am concerned.

  10. So, is the assistant superintendent’s salary so low that Ms. Winbush has to supplement her income with illegal, inhumane dog fighting so she can make ends meet? Or is it that she has no compassion and feels she is providing a service to those who view dog fighting as a valid form of “entertainment”? As a former educator, I was to follow the Humane Education Code (Sec 233.5 of CA Education Code) that states teachers are supposed to teach “kindness toward domestic pets and the humane treatment of living creatures”. Anyone involved in dog fighting, cruelty to animals, and child abuse has no business being a part of the education system. Hopefully, they’ll get the 13 year sentences, so they have time to think about their actions.
