[NEWS RELEASE] – It is with great pleasure that we announce Santa Clarita’s first community BBQ celebrating our LGBT families, friends and neighbors in honor of Harvey Milk Day. On May 24, 2014, PFLAG SCV, together with the Gay-Straight Alliances from the William S. Hart School District and College of the Canyons, will host our inaugural “Give ‘Em Hope BBQ.”
Gay-Straight Alliances are school clubs organized to create safe environments for students to support each other and to fight discrimination, harassment, and violence in schools.
PFLAG SCV is a chapter of PFLAG NATIONAL, an organization consisting of parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons. Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of the LGBT community through support, education, and advocacy.
Our BBQ will bring the community together to show support for our LGBT mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends and relatives. It will be a day of good food and great entertainment, along with arts & crafts for the entire family. The event will be held at the beautiful Richard Rioux Memorial Park in Stevenson Ranch on Saturday, May 24th, from 2-6pm.
We are looking to local businesses to help make this event happen. We are grateful for your tax-deductible donation of money, supplies, food, decorations, prizes and/or raffle items. You may also contribute directly via PayPal, on our website www.pflagscv.com , or send a check payable to PFLAG SCV at P.O. Box 55776, Santa Clarita, CA 91385-0076.

Let me know when the straight families will be celebrated.
I guess we missed that day Randall. Oh wait that would be us being rude and intolerant if we had a straight Family BBQ!
W have and probably will contribute to celebrate traditional families 364 days a year. I’m ashamed the people of Santa Clarita would say such hateful things about our neighbors.
Well Rachel I’ve never seen or been to a BBQ celebrating the straight families of SCV. The problem with functions like this is it only leads to more alienation of whatever specific group that’s being “celebrated”. Why not have BBQ celebrating the families of SCV as a whole? Why make one group more special than the other? Further more if SCV wants to celebrate a “hero” why not make it someone who has fought for the freedoms of all the people, someone who has fought for the Harvey Milk’s of our country and their ability to speak out. You want to talk about hateful things loll at Iran where gays are hanged in public, why not honor someone who has fought for the freedom we ALL take for granted
Wow have to say I’m not surprised with the two nasty comments above. Intolerance is nothing new in SCV you must be watching too much Fox News
Ignore the ignorant, let’s have some BBQ!
