Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit
Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country East:
(1) Grand theft auto, (3) Residential burglaries, (9) Vehicle burglaries, (2) Shop lifting.
During the past week we saw an increase in Part 1 crimes in Zone 8. The most significant increase in crimes in Zone 8 were vehicle burglaries. There were 9 vehicle burglaries reported in the area of Jakes Way/SR 14 Frwy. They all occurred on the same day and in each incident the front passenger windows were shattered. Items such as iPods and GPS units were taken from the vehicles. Always remember to remove valuable items from your vehicles when you park them on the street.
An Apple laptop was stolen from a classroom room at Mitchell Elementary School. The item was taken from the teacher’s desk drawer during the past week.
There were 2 residential burglaries reported last week. Both were garage burglaries. One occurred near the 18000 block of Annes circle. In this incident the suspect entered a garage and stole screwdrivers from inside of a vehicle that was parked in the garage. The second incident occurred near 27000 Tyler Lane. In this incident the suspect entered a secured garage and stole a bicycle.
There were two shop lifting incidents. One of the incidents occurred at the “Target” store on Golden Valley Rd. The suspects stole several bottles of liquor from the store. In the second incident two suspects entered the “7-11” store on Sierra Hwy. and stole soda from the soda fountain. Both suspects involved in this second incident were arrested the following day.
