domesticviolencecenter_dvc[KHTS] – The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley is asking the community to donate household supplies and clothing for victims of domestic violence who are living in a shelter.

The Domestic Violence Center’s shelter has limited storage space, which makes needed items on the wish list a priority, said Linda Davies, executive director at the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley.

“(We need) things like paper towels, detergent and cleaning supplies (which) are costly,” Davies said.

When a victim of domestic violence arrives at the center, they may often only have the clothes on their back, Davies said. After welcoming the victim, the staff allowed them to examine the donated clothes and pick an outfit they like.

“They are very grateful to the community,” said Davies. “It’s great they can get something they feel good in.”

The DVC of SCV takes used as well as new clothes, Davies said. Officials ask that the used clothes be in good condition as a sign of respect to those receiving them.

Domestic Violence Center officials love to receive donations of professional or business type clothes, Davies added.

“People who are victims of domestic violence often have to appear in court,” said Davis. “We love to get clothes that are professional for them to wear.”

Davies said donations can be dropped off at Suite 202 in the Savia Building located at 23780 Newhall Ave, Newhall, CA 91321.

The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley provides safety and support to victims of domestic violence while working to break the cycle of abuse. It offers shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and activities to support increased economic opportunities for victims.
