[KHTS] The “John Doe” dubbed body found about 200 yards from a missing man’s truck and trailer in Rowher Flats Saturday evening is still under investigation, according to CHP and Coroner officials.
The unidentified body is described as a 61-year-old man from Santa Clarita, Investigator Anthony Lopez with the L.A. County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said.
After approximately two hours of searching, an overturned 2005 Yamaha side-by-side all terrain vehicle was located with the rider “approximately 200 yards away from the vehicle with obvious signs of him being deceased,” according to CHP officials.
CHP officials were contacted by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Search and Rescue Team on Dec. 26 at approximately 4:36 p.m. regarding an off-road vehicle traffic collision that occurred in the rugged trails of Rowher Flats, located in the area of Sierra Highway and Rush Canyon, according to a CHP news release.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Search and Rescue Team notified CHP officials about a man possibly missing in the trails for several days.
The search was sparked by a blue Ford truck that was found parked for an extended amount of time in Rowher Flats on Saturday morning.
Jared Yochim, a Santa Clarita Valley resident, posted on Facebook that he saw the man’s truck and became worried.
Yochim identified the owner of the truck as Saugus resident Michael Skelton.
CHP officials are still investigating the date, time and cause of the collision.
It has not been confirmed that the body found in Rowher Flats is that of the Skelton.
The body was recovered around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, said Sgt. Cortland Myers with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Whether alcohol or drugs are a factor is still under investigation.
