Here is the Stevenson Ranch (Zone 3) Crime Information & Public Safety report from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for the week of October 2 to October 8, 2017:

10/07/17
Burglary – 24900 block Pico Canyon Road
A male adult placed 2 ‘Dragonball Figpin’ action figures in his pocket while selling a video game to the victim, then left the store without paying for the items. The victim stated the suspect was required to provide a driver’s license to sell the item. Total loss was $26.00.

10/04/17
Burglary – 24900 block Constitution Avenue
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s apartment, which was temporarily condemned due to fire and water damage as a result of a fire in a neighboring apartment, and stole a Taurus .38 revolver pistol.

Petty Theft (Shoplifting) – 25400 block The Old Road
Three male juvies stole 13 bottles of liquor from the location. The items were later recovered during a traffic stop, however, no crime had been reported at the time, and no arrests were made.

10/03/17
Burglary (Vehicle) – 25200 block The Old Road
Person(s) unknown smashed the driver’s side window of the vehicle and stole 3 tool bags containing various tools and climbing equipment used for high electrical wire repair. Total loss was $6,102.00.

10/02/17
Burglary (Vehicle) – 25300 block The Old Road
Person(s) unknown smashed the rear driver’s side window of the vehicle and stole his golf bag containing 16 custom made golf clubs, Bose headphones, and Oakley sunglasses. Total loss was $2,450.00.

Tip of the Week: Using Your Vehicle as a Storage Container
When we have heavy/bulky items that we regularly transport in our vehicle, such as tools or sporting equipment, we are often tempted to leave those items in our vehicles to save us the trouble of dragging them into the house or work. There are times though when we learn too late that it was a bad decision, and we find our windows smashed and the items gone.

If you are going to leave your vehicle unattended for a long period of time, especially overnight, it may be a better idea to take the time and bring those items inside your home.

If you work in some kind of construction or maintenance field where bringing in so many items simply isn’t practical, then assure that the items are secured in a good quality tool box that is permanently mounted to the vehicle. If you use a van, you may want to invest in tamperproof locks for your vehicle.
