DUI Costs $45K; Causing Death While DUI an Unrepayable Debt

Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department officials tally the cost of a driving under the influence arrest at more than $45,000, while causing a death while driving DUI is an unrepayable debt.

The cost of a DUI arrest and conviction breaks down to these rough numbers:

* Increase to your insurance: $40,000

* Towing and storage fees: $700

* DUI classes: $700

* Fines and attorney fees: $4,000

* License reinstatement: $100

This New Year’s Eve we remind and encourage our residents to not drink and drive. Buzzed driving or driving while under the influence of marijuana are considered intoxicated driving.

With so many options available to drivers like Uber, Lyft, taxi services and other resources, there is no reason for irresponsible driving.

Plan ahead, designate a driver and get to your destination safely. One night of fun isn’t worth ruining anyone’s life, including your own.
