[KHTS] – Rowland Air Inc. employees are collecting donations online for the surviving victim of Tuesday night’s fatal collision in Canyon Country.
The victim, Kari Nay-Kennedy, 26, is in critical condition after she and another pedestrian were struck by a Toyota Camry Tuesday night while crossing Sierra Highway near Scherzinger Lane.

Nay-Kennedy, who has been an employee at Rowland Air for two years, married her husband less than two weeks before the accident and is the mother of a 6-year-old boy, Rowland Air employees said.
Company employees created a [Go Fund Me page] online Wednesday to collect donations for Nay-Kennedy’s family, and are asking anyone able to make a donation to help alleviate medical expenses to do so.
Their listed goal is to raise $100,000, and the site collected $1,785 in donations in its first three hours.
Munir Jeryous Albichara, 65, of Canyon Country, who was also struck in the crash, was declared dead at the scene minutes after Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies received the report of the incident.
Nay-Kennedy and Albichara were in an unmarked crosswalk when they were struck, according to Sgt. Rich Cohen of the Sheriff’s Station’s Traffic Unit.
Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors, but the crash is still under investigation.

I lived at those cross streets. It’s very dark there at night and people fly down that road.

Wow this is a sad story. It was a Toyota corolla. so far I have seen different reports, saying a tow truck, a Toyota Celica, and a Camry. God wiling she makes it. No 6 year old child should lose their mother ever.
I believe that it is really very noble of Rowland Air, Inca. Are concerned enough for a fellow employee to raise Funds foe an injured fellow employee and I certainly do wishes her meet wishes for a speedy recovery, However, does this mean that Rowland Air Inc. does or does not have a medical plan for its employees?
It’s probably too small a company. Most small companies can’t afford that.
Sad that people think them needing to get somewhere is more important than someone’s life. Prayers :(
It’s probably not that they needed to get somewhere faster. It’s a dark road with little to no street lights and when you don’t cross the street at a cross walk at a stop light you take a risk. I drive this road everyday and people run into the road every single day!! People should use the cross walks especially at night when it’s dark!!
Many years ago I lived on Scherzinger. It’s extremely dark in that particular area.
I live just up from Mirror Lane, the other side of the intersection across from Scherzinger. We need better lighting, highly visible marked crosswalk and maybe even a traffic light. Ever since they built the new Townhomesand more people are taking the bus, that intersection has become more dangerous than ever. People from the bus or who live in the ABC condos and used to park along Sierra Hwy now have to park up Mirror Way and along Beneda Lane need to cross there in an unmarked crosswalk or walk more than a quarter of a mile out of the way down Sierra Hwy to the Avondale Rd/American Beauty Drive to cross safely We need to call on the SCV City Council to spend some money on this part of town for a change and make all our lives safer. They don’t mind collecting property taxes and issuing plenty of traffic citations to raise revenue for things like a Master Arts Plan focused on Newhall or adding Amenities to Central Park which is clear across town. Let’s put Safety at the top of the list. No more deaths, ruined lives here in Canyon Country!
Contact the city-public works dept 661-255-4344. I have had results 2 out of 3 times! I got the city to make an apartment building trim back their landscaping as it blocked approaching speeding downhill traffic by my kid’s school. There were many accidents, including my neighbor who had their car totaled. In another instance, they added `no parking’ signs after my husband was hit by a car where large trucks and vehicles were allowed to park blocking the view of exiting cars. If there are either accidents, deaths and/or upon inspection it is determined a hazard you should get results. In this case, proper lighting.

Just heartbreaking…for all concerned…driving in the valley yesterday I was sun blind even with ray bans…as I was making a left moving into a shade patch I nearly hit a young lady jogging across the street…I did not see her…til we nearly collided…nobody wants to hit a pedestrian…I wouldve died…accidents can and do happen…no matter how cautious you try to be…

Sierra Hwy. is very dangerous. I live less than 2 miles from where this happened and travel every day through there. I nearly hit a guy crossing in a wheel chair once, never saw him til he was in front of me. Many blind spots and very dark at night. The posted limits are too high out here, it is night a highway like the namer infers.
A very sad lesson in risk taking. Hard to judge the speed of on coming cars at night. I feel very bad for Kari, her son and husband but my heart really goes out to the driver who through no fault of their own, has to live with this tragedy, and knowing they killed one person and maimed another. Horrible for all concerned. God help Kari, I pray.

This whole “pedestrians have the right of way” is getting WAY out of control! Whatever happened to ‘looking both ways & watching out for cars’ lesson we learned as kids? And people in cars need to pay more attention to driving/the road too!
Even people who do look both ways get hit, people are in such a rush and misjudge and think they can make it before hitting someone. I see it all the time.

Maybe the driver was speeding; maybe they just couldn’t see them in time in the dark: it’s too soon to tell. But we can blame the poor lighting in that section of Sierra Hwy and lack of a safe crossing at that intersection. For the sake of these victims, let’s petition, call on SCV City Council to improve the lighting, put in a well marked lighted crosswalk or even a traffic light at this intersection. Safety and saving lives should be their top priority.
Well most drive between 45 and 50 on that road. There was a cross walk 1 block away at a light. 1 block would have been enough to avoid this tragedy. Laziness caused this unfortunate set of events.
Has anybody besides me noticed that they raised the speed limit near the collage? I work on Sierra hwy and when the students are running late they fly by on all sides with no regard for anyone’s safety. So instead of reinforcing the 45 mph limit they raised it to 50mph. I follow the rules for my safety and the safety of others.if it’s raining they drive faster. I wonder everyday if this is the road that will take my children’s mother from them. Everyone on the road is responsible for their actions . We all know it’s an unsafe road why are so many driving it like a roller coaster ride.whee. I’m scared all of you should be too.

I rarely use Vasquez . Scarier than Sierra.I wish everyone in this valley felt responsible for the safety of everyone in this valley.that way we can all enjoy the lives we’ve chosen to live here.
