Golden Valley High School announced the hiring of a new Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach on Wednesday.
Larry Keys will be replacing former Golden Valley Grizzlies coach, Dan Alon as the new head coach of the Varsity Boys Basketball Team.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity. It’s a great group of young men and I’m just excited to take on this new position,” said Keys.
Keys is a familiar face for the Golden Valley Grizzlies, he was a member of the coaching staff for the boys basketball program when the team won back-to-back Foothill League Championship titles in 2009 and 2010.
Keys served as both the JV head coach and assistant varsity coach during his time with Golden Valley from 2005 to 2010.
He then moved on to work for Hart High School in 2011 as the JV Boys Basketball coach until earlier this year.“Coach Keys is well prepared to take over our program as he knows our school, our program, and our community,” said Robert Fisher, Athletic Director at Golden Valley.
“Hart plays in the same league as Golden Valley so I saw their team when we played them twice this year,” Keys said, when asked about Golden Valley’s last season. “They’re a very talented and athletic team.”
Coach Keys was introduced to the Golden Valley Basketball players for the first time at a practice earlier this week and this will be his first year serving as a Varsity Head Coach
“I don’t know if anyone can prepare themselves for running their own program any better than by coaching with the likes of Chris Printz and Tom Kelly,” said Sal Frias, principal at Golden Valley.
