The Hart football team won its fifth game in a row and remained the No. 1 team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division.
Hart clobbered West Ranch, 49-6, in the Foothill League opener for both teams.
Valencia won its Foothill League opener, 38-0, against Saugus, and moved up a spot in the Northern Division rankings. The Vikings are ranked No. 5 and have a 3-3 record.
The Canyon football team also moved up a spot, to No. 9 in the Northern Division poll, after a convincing and record-setting win over Golden Valley, 49-7.
Canyon receiver Drew Wolitarsky set the state record for career receiving yards in the game. He has 4,585 yards receiving in his career at Canyon and broke the mark held by Steve Smith, who played high school football at Taft in Woodland Hills.
The Trinity team slipped a spot in the Southern Section Division II 8-man football poll. The Knights are ranked No. 4 after losing to Mojave, 29-20.
In high school cross country, the Canyon girls won the 28th annual Santa Clarita Valley Invitational by one point over Granada Hills.
Madison Hills was the top runner for Canyon. She finished in third place and completed the course at Castaic Lake in 19 minutes, 17 seconds. Three runners from Canyon finished in the top five.
The Canyon boys team finished in fifth place at the meet. Joel Estrada was the top runner for Canyon. He was 13th in 16 minutes, 20 seconds.
The Golden Valley girls team was fourth in the Division II race at the Clovis Invitational at Woodward Park. Chelsey Totten was top runner for Golden Valley, finishing the race in third place in 18 minutes, 21 seconds.
The Golden Valley boys team was fifth in the Division II race led by Nolan Del Valle who was fourth in 15 minutes, 33 seconds.
The West Ranch girls were sixth in the Division I race at the Clovis Invitational. Marisa Magsarilli was seventh in 18 minutes, 31 seconds.
The Valencia girls were eighth in the Division I race paced by an eighth-place finish by Maggie Dignadice.
The West Ranch boys were 12th in the Division I race. The Valencia boys were 17th.
In pro sports, Futbol Club Santa Clarita Storm soccer team played to a scoreless draw against the Las Vegas High Rollers in a friendly in South Central Los Angeles.
